Reminders

  • Our Walk-a-thon is approaching very quickly. We are already having a "Pledge Tally Day" on Wednesday. On this day we will ask the students how much they have raised so far. The class with the most so far will get extra recess! Thank you so much for all your support!
  • Hot Lunch is on Wednesday. If you have ordered through the paper form or online, your child will be receiving it this Wednesday. 
  • Friday is a Food Bank Mass. Students are asked to bring in one food item to donate! Thank you!
  • Also thank you for all the coins on Terry Fox day! We raised so much money!
Weekly Work
  • Please continue working with the letters sent home. 
  • You should have received a RAZ-kids information sheet last week. If you haven't please let me know and I can send you a new one.
  • In  our phonics and alphabet book we will be working on the sounds of  j, f,g, l and d. These would be great letters to practice and make words with at home this week.
  • In Math, we are working on the strategy of counting on and using the math language "more than". We will also be looking at number charts and thinking about which number comes next.
  • In Science, we are continuing with day and night and demonstrating how the tilt of the earth creates the seasons.

Reminders

  • On Wednesday we are having our Terry Fox Walk. We will have an assembly and then walk around the school grounds. We have been asked to bring in coins to support this cause and the class with the most money will win free popcorn! 
  • On Friday we have an assembly for our Fitness-a-thon (revamped version of the walk-a-thon). 
  • Tomorrow students will be receiving their login information for Raz-Kids. Look for it in their new yellow home folders!
Weekly Work
  • We have been learning about the colours of the Liturgical year. Specifically focusing on four colours; purple (before the feast), white (during the feast), green (after the feast) and red (Feast of the Holy Spirit). We will be going into the church to see where we can find these liturgical colours. 
  • In our phonics we are working on the sounds of h, m and k.We will be looking at both initial and final sounds of these letters
  • We are still building our reading stamina and are now reading for ten minutes! Students have also been introduced to some of our word work tasks for literacy centers. 
  • In Math, we will be counting using a chart, reviewing the concept of less and more, and counting the extras to find out how many more. 
  •  Science is beginning this week. We will start with weather words and observe the weather we see outside. Also, we will talk about the sun and how we have day and night.

Reminders

  • Tomorrow is the last day for Entertainment books. Please send your order envelopes or any unsold books. Thank you for all your hard work! 
  • It's Library day tomorrow! Please send any books that are still at home. 
Homework
  • You should have received an envelope with upper and lowercase letters and a notice explaining it in your child's backpack today. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reminders

  • Picture day is on Friday! We will be wearing our uniform on this day, so please make sure your child has their sweater. 
  • Thank you for selling so many Entertainment Books! There are check in days on Tuesday and Thursday. If you are unable to sell the books, you may send them back. 
  • Thank you for all the Kleenex!
Weekly Work 

  • We have been learning about our prayer table, spending time in prayer, and learning our basic prayers. During quiet time (while students are finishing lunches), some students have been having a "Bible School" where they read the Bible together and then pray together at the end. Very inspirational! 
  • Our phonics book was started today. This week we will do Partner letters, and sounds of s,t,b, h, m and k. We will also write down words for these letters in our alphabet books.
  • We have been building our reading stamina and can read up to six minutes with everyone entirely focused on a book!
  • We are still reviewing math concepts and are matching numbers to objects, identifying groups of five and putting numbers in order.

Just a few reminders:

  • Students have PE tomorrow. Please have them dress with their PE strip underneath their regular uniform. 
  • There were a few missing sweaters after school today. Please check to make sure you have the right sweater and if not please send it back.

Welcome Back

Welcome to Grade one! I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are eager to be back in school mode. I am excited to get to know all of you and your wonderful children!

Here are just a few reminders about tomorrow

  • At the beginning of school, students will line up at the primary doors to be brought in. If it is raining they may come inside the classroom to stay dry.
  • We have early dismissal on Wednesdays. Students should be picked up at 2:00 pm.
  • We are starting gym classes this week, so please send gym shoes as soon as possible. 
  • Please look for a letter and a form to fill out in your child's backpack tomorrow night.
